Nestle Nido nutrition day programme educates, rewards over 400 mothers

Good nutrition is the key to healthy lifestyle but unfortunately only few people  are fortunate to enjoy it's fruit due to a number of factors.

One of such factors which is said to be a barrier to most people getting nourished in Ghana today can be  attributed to lack of knowledge.

It is against this backdrop Nestle Ghana is poised to contribute to the healthier lives of individuals and families through its flagship programme dubbed "Nestle Ghana Nido Nutrition Day".

Under this programme mothers and caregivers are sensitized on the importance of good nutrition through  series of talks, drama and games.

It is organized with the endorsement of the Ghana Education Service and implemented under the supervision of the School Health Education Program(SHEP) in basic schools across  the country.

Since it's inception 3 years ago,  The Nido Nutrition Day event  has significantly  impacted over 30,000 mothers with the requisite knowledge and skills needed towards enhancing the quality life of their children through the provision of  daily nutritious meals.

This year's edition which coincided with the 60th anniversary celebrations of Nestle was held at Sowah Din Memorial School at Omanjor near the School Junction in Accra.

In attendance were over 400 mothers who were engaged, entertained and educated on the importance of good nutrition.

Paulina Akakpo, a lucky mother who emerged  winner of the Nestle Nido quiz competition has been rewarded by Nestle with a cheque GHC 500.00 to support her child education. Other mothers also picked home assorted Nestle branded souvenirs as giveaways.

Addressing the participants  at the event, the Category Manager for Dairy at Nestle Ghana Ltd., Edwin Amoako charged mothers to be committed to enhancing the life of their children through producing balanced meals enriched with the right nutrition at all times.

He maintained Nido as a brand is synonymous with enhancing the quality of lives across the world and in Ghana specifically adding,  "this is one of the things that we do to bring or break down education about nutrition to the lowest level so that anybody in the neighbourhood can understand the benefit of good nutrition and how we can directly impact the future of their children".

According Edwin Amoako, the company will be rolling out 30 of such events this year to rigorously educate all mothers on the importance of good nutrition  which will be replicated across the 10 regions of Ghana.

With its global commitment to help reduce the risk of malnutrition through micro nutrient fortification, Nestle has formulated three new bold ambitions to achieve by 2030 including helping 50 million children lead healthier lives, improve 30 million livelihoods in communities connected to our business activities and to strive for zero environmental impact in its operations.
