Engage Now Africa launches new campaign; empowers over 150 GPRTU leaders to combat human trafficking

Engage Now Africa, an international NGO committed to ending poverty in Africa through the launch of its latest and innovative campaign strategy dubbed “ Trafficking-free Road Campaign has empowered over 1 50 leaders of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) in the Central Region with skills and resources ready to combat human trafficking on our roads.  The 1-day sensitization forum saw the 1 50 beneficiaries who are representatives from the 103 branches under the GPRTU in the Central Region sensitized and empowered on the tricks of child trafficking and how to curb it. Aside the training, the participants were also handed anti-slavery branded stickers, certificate of participation including 30 minutes video documentary on child trafficking. They were also tasked to show the video to their drivers within the branches and also get them copies to show in their vehicles on daily basis. “I’d to quit schooling last year since my mother can no longer afford to pay my fees. She was recently thrown out of a rented apartment we are living in which cost GH₵ 800.00 simply because she can’t afford to pay for the rent. This has left me with no choice than to sell ice cream to raise money to support her including myself. Power generation through coal would be suicidal to Ghana’s future-350 G-ROC

350 Ghana Reducing our Carbon (350), a climate change activist  group  and members of the CSOs anti-coal campaigners in the country are making a  strong case against government’s bid  to collaborate with a Chinese company  towards the  establishment of   a coal plant in the country to  provide sufficient energy to meet the country’s increasing power demand. The groups at a press conference on Tuesday, September 27,  2016  raised the  red flag on government’s intention to establish the proposed coal plant saying coal has severe negative environmental, health, and social impact on humans therefore it should be abolished. Volta River Authority (VRA) in January this year, announced  government’s plan to collaborate with the Shenzhen Energy Group Co., Ltd. of China (SEC) to develop a 2×350MW super-critical coal-fired generating units including affiliated coal handling terminal, at Ekumfi in the Central Region. The proposed project is expected to include two units of 350 meg
