Gov't urged to help remove 20% luxury tax on menstrual hygiene products to advance women’s health

The Country Director of Days for Girls Ghana (DFG), a non-profit organization, Sandra Boakye has called on government to urgently respond to the plight of women and girls and ensure the complete removal of 20% luxury tax on menstrual hygiene product into the country to allow free-flow, easy access and use of women and girls during their menstrual cycle periods. According to her, this would go a long way to help address the issues of menstrual hygiene health that our women and girls are confronted with on a daily basis to advance their good health and well-being in the country at all times. She made this known while addressing a capacity building session organized by her outfit for some selected journalists representing a cross section of the Ghanaian media in Accra on Monday September 20, 2021.      The beneficiaries were drawn from media houses such as GTV, Metro TV, Atinka TV, ATV, Sena Radio online, Ghanaian Times, Onua TV/Radio, 3FM/TV3 and the Human Rights Reporters Ghana (HRRG). 

Help influence gov’t decision to increase domestic financing for immunization -Media told

  The Programs Manager of the  Hope For Future Generations , (HFFG), Gladys Damalin has called for increase domestic financing for immunization. To achieve this, she further called on the Ghanaian media to strongly advocate and influence the government’s decision to act with urgency and help increase the domestic financing for immunization in the country.   Increase domestic financing for immunization This, according to her, is the surest way to close the gaps in the health sector thereby helping the country achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC). “We want you to go with us, accompany us on this journey, calling on parliamentarians, calling on political leaders, calling on the government to help increase funding for domestic immunization to end health challenges in Ghana”. 2021 IWPD: GAYO urges Government to prioritize issues of Informal Waste Workers

The National Chairman of the Informal Waste Pickers’ Group, Mr. Johnson Doe, has appealed to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to give listening ears to the plights of the Informal Waste Pickers and Collectors in the country.  He also called on the President to address their issues to help achieve his noble vision of making Accra the cleanest city in West Africa.  Speaking in an interview on the sidelines at a virtual event organized by Green Africa Youth Organization (GAYO) in Accra on Friday, March 5, 2021, to commemorate this year’s International Waste Pickers’ Day (IWPD), Mr. Johnson Doe said: “Yes, the president’s vision can be achieved if he involves us (pickers and collectors) in decision-making processes in the waste management systems particularly at the district level and we really deserve to be recognized as well. The Human Rights Reporters Ghana (HRRG) has been named among 10 finalists who have demonstrated sterling leadership in their work as selfless advocates for the rights of people on the continent as part of the 2020 Africans Rising Activism Award under the Movement of the Year category. The 2020 Africans Rising Activism Award seeks to recognize both a movement and an individual activist for their hard work for change. The award scheme was an initiative of the African Rising for Justice, Peace & Dignity popularly known as the ‘Africans Rising’.   In a bid to help end the kidnappings as well as the burgeoning human rights and social issues in Ghana and beyond, the Human Rights Reporters Ghana (HRRG) in 2019 embarked on a ‘Nationwide Sensitization Campaign on Kidnapping, Teenage, Pregnancy and Tramadol/Drug Abuse’ (KTT). The campaign, popularly known as the ‘KTT Project’, focused on addressing issues of kidnapping, teenage pregnancy and drug abuse but equally set about creating a deeper education on human rights to bring about a cultural change.
