Bejewahume Community gets NGO’s support towards creation of new Child Welfare Centre

As part of efforts to promote healthcare delivery in the country, the Rural Project Support Network (RPSN), an NGO committed to improving the lives of rural people in the country has supported Bejewahume, a community located in Achimota within the Ga East Municipality of the Greater Accra Region with some relief items towards creation of a new Child Welfare Centre to cater for the health needs of children. The items which valued at a total cost of GH¢1,500.00 include 1 weighing stand,1 veronica bucket, 2 benches,1 table and 3 plastic chairs. The gesture according to the Executive Director of Rural Project Support Network, Ms. Felicia Sosu seeks to aid caregivers to help provide healthcare services in the community with ease. It is also intended to help address the challenges most parents face in the community in attempt to assist their children attain healthcare delivery. The Municipal Director of Education in the Prestea Huni-Valley municipality, Ms. Francisca Mwin-Ira has underscored the need for all parents and guardians in the country to be to more committed in the welfare of children to ensure that  they are given the right form of education at a tender age in order to prevent them from being exposed to reading and learning difficulties that could go a long way to mar their future. According to her, giving children a very strong literacy foundation in education at an early stage is the key to securing a better future for their academic excellence. “We all know how important it is to educate a child and the best way to start is when they are still young” she added. 2017 Human Rights Day: UNIC Accra sensitizes over 100 women on child trafficking

The United Nations Information Centre Accra has held a durbar which saw over 100 traders from the Kaneshie market including the general public vigorously sensitized on child trafficking, child labour and child abuse in commemoration of the 2017 Human Rights Day. The sensitization forum which took place at a spot within the Kaneshie market complex in Accra was aimed at educating market women on the rights of children including the importance of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Pat Thomas thrills SIC Ladies at a dinner to commemorate 40th anniversary

Experiences of most events are easily forgotten but not in the case of SIC Ladies Association’s 40th anniversary celebration dinner and dance party which went down last Saturday at the Police Social and Fitness Centre in Accra.  It was a night of musical explosion characterized by exciting dance moves as various artistes put up exhilarating performances to hook up dancers permanently unto the dancing floor. The sweet aroma of delicious meals and varieties of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages was everywhere in excess begging for attention yet nobody seemed to care.  But what caught the attention and thrilled every Tom, Dick and Harry present at the event was the unique performance put up by the Ghanaian highlife legend Pat Thomas when the dancing floor was opened. The President of SIC Ladies Association (SICLA), Bernice Boachie, has challenged all corporate organizations, philanthropists, investors and well-meaning individuals in the country to rise up and adopt an orphanage to turn around lives of disadvantaged children in the society.  According to her, the rich people in the country are weak in performance of their corporate social responsibilities especially when it comes to reaching out to unfortunate children in orphanages who are in dire need of support to live a life of dignity. Over 200 Ghanaian youth have participated in a health walk event and engaged in other activities to commemorate this year’s World AIDS Day. The event kicked off at the early hours of Friday December 1, 2017 at James Town Community Theatre Centre in  Accra. It was jointly organized by cluster of  Non-governmental Organizations(NGOs) in the country including Community and Family AID Foundation(CAFAF),Women Of Dignity Alliance, Gamashie Development Agency (GAMADA), Gamashie Radio, CEPHERG, Act For Change, Williows International ,Adesa Taloi, Gamashie All-Stars, Courageous Women. A renowned marriage counsellor, Nana Ebo Koomson has cautioned the youth against rushing into marriage simply because they are moved by certain feelings within their body towards the opposite sex without first conducting a critical study to see if the he/she is the right person before going ahead to marry. “You shouldn’t rush into marriage just because you have a string in the heart touching that you should marry the person, don’t go, study before you go into it”, he stressed. 2017 World Toilet Day: UNIC Accra partners GES to sensitize over 50 students on proper sanitation

The United Nations Information Centre, Accra(UNIC) in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service(GES) have held a forum to sensitize over 50 students in the country on proper sanitation as part of efforts to commemorate this year’s World Toilet Day. The sensitization forum which witnessed over 50 students vigorously sensitized on proper sanitation methods including waste water management, dangers of open defecation among others took place at the Osu Presbyterian Preparatory School in Accra on Friday November 17, 2017. The participants were drawn from 5 selected Preparatory and Junior High schools located at Osu within the Accra Metropolis.
