2017 World AIDS Day: Over 200 Ghanaians walk in solidarity with the the World to mark the day at James Town


Over 200 Ghanaian youth have participated in a health walk event and engaged in other activities to commemorate this year’s World AIDS Day.
The event kicked off at the early hours of Friday December 1, 2017 at James Town Community Theatre Centre in  Accra.
It was jointly organized by cluster of  Non-governmental Organizations(NGOs) in the country including Community and Family AID Foundation(CAFAF),Women Of Dignity Alliance, Gamashie Development Agency (GAMADA), Gamashie Radio, CEPHERG, Act For Change, Williows International ,Adesa Taloi, Gamashie All-Stars, Courageous Women.
The participants representing various NGOs, schools & churches in the country were spotted in events T-shirts as they embarked on the health walk  through the principal streets of Accra where they converged at City Engineers Building at James Town Community Theater Centre to experience aerobic exercises session.

The health walk was accompanied by other events such as movie screening  exhibition, HIV  testing and screening, quiz competition, drama displays among others.
The theme for this years World AIDS Day celebration is “My Health, My Right”.
The World AIDS Day is celebrated annually on December 1 as a day dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection, and mourning those who died of the disease.
Government and health officials, non-governmental organizations and individuals around the world observe the day, often with education on AIDS prevention and control.
In Ghana this year, various events were held across the country to mark the day even on the national level but in their own way small way the event organizers have demonstrated their commitment to support with the biggest health walk event on the community level just to grace the occasion and make the  2017 World AIDS day in Ghana a memorable one.
During the health walk which became a scene of attraction, over 5,000 HIV/AIDS materials were distributed among people on the streets of Accra just to sensitize them and create awareness on the disease and the significance of the day in commemoration.
In an official statement released to the press said on behalf of the organizers, Mr Joseph Senyo Kwashie, Executive Director of Community And Family Aid  Foundation(CAFAF) said: “The 2017 edition of WORLD AIDS DAYS is here with us again and again reminding us of over three and half decades battle in the field fighting the number one shocking pandemic of the century. Remarkable are the efforts pursued so far in finding lasting solutions to this social scourge. Our health is our right; thus, when we certainly stand firmer the momentum could trigger much enviable results than we think. The theme matters but the actions counts collectively reminding us on the need to deliver as one “.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with GhanaNewsOne.Com , Mr. Kwashie noted the fight against HIV/AIDS must be concern to all.
He therefore called on the Christian Community, Civil Society Groups, Individuals and Corporate bodies in the country to endeavour to join the fight in order to make HIV a thing of the past.
CAFAF has been promoting healthy lifestyle and connecting people with information that would lead them to a healthy lifestyle.
The NGO  that spearheaded this year’s World AIDS Day activities through its programs and actions throughout the year has rolled out so many programs to inform and get citizens involved in issues that affects the populace. One of such programs is the abortion 360 which has targeted schools, opinion leaders, sex workers and the fit and unfit in the society.
CAFAF is a Ghanaian NGO with a global and local content thinking currently exclusively identified with promoting the empowerment of women, communities, young people to manage issues concerning their development and to advocate for and work towards adolescent and sexual reproductive health, rights and well-being; to advocate for and on behalf of young people, in the area of reproductive health, HIV/AIDS, environment, health, education, climate change, and other related issues that affect their total development.
