Ghana's Team Among Finalist In MTN Entrepreneurship Challenge by Jumia



MedRx team from Ghana has emerged as one of the successful teams who will get the opportunity to attend the Entrepreneurship Festival, hosted at the University Of Cape Town Graduate School Of Business in South Africa for the final round of the MTN Entrepreneurship Challenge powered by Jumia.

MedRx app is an interactive health platform for all users who have health needs. The app connects users to health personnel from various fields of practice including hospital, pharmacy, laboratory and academia. The Ghana team would be competing with two other teams who emerged as winners in their countries to win the final $25,000. They are   Pass.ng (Nigeria) a web, desktop and mobile-based CBT examination preparatory and testing platform, with a vision to help candidates excel in all the major Nigerian examinations and tests. Vicoba (Tanzania). Village Community Banks (Vicoba) are an important instrument of development work, allowing people who do not have access to conventional bank accounts, to access informal investment groups. Vicoba app creates a collaborative platform that includes existing tools for financial and task management in a way that is adapted for the African market.

Speaking to the media, Hayford Nkansah Brako a member of the MedRx team said: "It's been an exciting and life changing experience. This opportunity should be given to as many youthful entrepreneurs as possible to encourage a life transforming startups such as MedRx".
The team is made up of one lady and two young men. Victoria Tekyiwaah Amofah Acheampong, a 25 year old pharmacist in training. Yannick  Kabu  Bosomprah, a 27 year old software engineer and Hayford Nkansah Brako, a 26 year old registered pharmacist.

The Journey:
The first round of the multi-phased competition, which is the application stage opened from 16th February to 27th March and received massive response across Africa. Other African countries who took part in this challenge are ; Nigeria, Cameroon, Rwanda, South Africa, Kenya, Morocco, Ivory Coast, Tanzania, Egypt, Senegal, Benin, Uganda, Algeria, Zimbabwe, Sudan, Zambia, Togo, Botswana etc.
The finalists were announced on 16th April 2016, and as part of this achievement, the successful teams will get the opportunity to attend the Entrepreneurship Festival, hosted at the University Of Cape Town Graduate School Of Business in South Africa on May 27 2016.

The festival, aims to facilitate the collaboration of over a thousand attendees with prominent and innovative speakers and workshop experts from across the world. Finalists will have to pitch their business to a room of successful entrepreneurs, business leaders, judges, investors and international media, after which the winner of the challenge will be announced.
The winner of the MTN Entrepreneurship Challenge powered by Jumia will win a cash prize of US $25 000 towards their start-up, and will also benefit from a yearlong partnership with Jumia, where they will have the opportunity to work from any of JUMIA’s offices across Africa.
This will enable the winner to learn from, and be mentored by experienced and successful entrepreneurs in the JUMIA network.
The winner will also have access to a Facebook Start Program to the value of US $15 000, which includes tools and services needed to build mobile applications. In addition, they will have the opportunity to work from the MTN Solution Space at the University of Cape Town’s Graduate School of Business. The two runners-up will each receive US $5 000 towards their projects.
