2016 Medofo Pa “True Love” Program:Youths urged to seek counsel in the word of God before marriage

Rev. Michael Acheampong Kusi, General Overseer of the Christ Family Crusaders Church, Koforidua has admonished the youth who wants to enter into marriage to first of all seek counsel in the word of God before taking the marital vow.
He equally entreats the youth to fully understand God’s purpose for creating marriage instead of running into it just for the fun of it in order to have a long lasting marital relationship.

Rev. Michael Kusi gave the advice speaking to multitudes of youths on the topic “The divine mission of man in marriage” at a special Valentine’s Day programme dubbed 'Medofo Pa’ at the Central Assemblies of God Church in Koforidua on the eve of Valentine’s Day, February 14.
.
According to him, the youth must have good knowledge about marriage, coupled with that; they should also seek advice from parents because no parent will ever give bad advice to his/her child.

“So when you are able to approach your parents, let’s say your mother or your father openly concerning your fear in marriage, your mum or dad will be able to explain certain things to you and show you how to go about with some of the things that confront men in marriage and when they are able to do this; I think the marriage is bound to succeed.”

“It is not only parents but Pastors and even other elderly people. Also the youth should read marriage books which can also enlighten them  on a lot of issues therefore they shouldn’t feel shy in approaching people for help in some of the difficulties that confronts them in their relationships because the Bible says; in the multitudes of counseling, a man shall order his steps” he posited.

Several marriages in Ghana today have suffered split-ups due to a number of factors. According to the Ghana Statistical Service report in 2014, nearly 600,000 marriages contracted in Ghana have collapsed, more than three times the divorce cases of England and Wales put together in 2012.  But Rev. Michael Kusi in his sermon attributed the main causes of divorce on part of several marriages these days as a result of lack of submissiveness.
According to him, the word submissive does not mean ‘you do not have a will of your own but you are laying down your will or putting your will aside in order to fulfill the desires of the other person just to make the person happy’.

“So it goes both ways, the man sometimes can be submissive to the wife in some ways and the woman is expected by God to be submissive to the husband in all things, that is putting her own will aside and fulfilling the desires of the husband”.

“When a woman is able to go that way, she creates room for happiness in the marriage. The man feels relaxed and he is able to trust the wife. But when the wife insists on doing her own will, then the resultant effect will be quarrels which can later escalate into separation if care is not taken” he underscored.

He wondered why most people especially the youth today will go into marriage thinking it’s all about enjoying sex when as a matter fact the definition of marriage remains as a relationship created by God that is founded on love, understanding, tolerance and acceptance.

For his part, Rev. Eric Nyamekye, Area Head of the Church of Pentecost, Koforidua, believes misunderstanding of the concept of marriage is the cause of numerous divorce cases in marriages.
According to him, most marriage couples don’t seem to realize they’ve entered into a covenant which they must try to work out, so the least pressure, they are out.

“We are leaving in a world so permissive that people wouldn’t spend their time to work on issues but rather want to have it easy way so they end up out of marriage prematurely.” he stated.

He referred to marriage as an institution from God which is a good thing adding, “anything that God has instituted can’t be evil but there are so many hazy ideas concerning marriage that people should to  the word of God and know the original intent as Jesus spelt out clearly in the book of Matthew 19”.
Commenting on what marriages lack these days.

Rev. Nyamekye said: “they lack the fear of God but not money as people often think, that is why you see a lot of break ups because they don’t fear to go against what God has said.

Rev. Eric Nyamekye encouraged the youth to desist from entertaining fear whenever they are about to enter into marriage but rather go in into it with wisdom, forethought and with the fear of God.
He also cautioned the youth against frivolous spending on wedding ceremonies but rather focusing on the marriages itself. He has also implored the youths to exude maturity in many ways to be able to enjoy effective marital relationships.

Meanwhile, President of the Nana Perbi Outreach Ministry, Ps. Nana Adjei Perbi (Np) backed by the African Fusion Band has put up a thrilling performance by releasing romantic melodies which kept the whole church blazing with love.

The  'Medofo Pa’ “True Love” programme is the brainchild of  Goodlife 105.5 FM (Koforidua based) station which is organized annually to bring the youth and adults together  under one umbrella to be  motivated inspired and rejuvenated in love every Valentine’s Day February 14.

The maiden edition of ‘Medofo Pa’ special Valentine’s Day program was initiated in 2014 witnessing a huge patronage till date paving way for a much successful 3rd edition this year.
