Toyota Ghana renews distributorship agreement

Toyota Ghana Company Limited has renewed its distributorship agreement with the world’s largest automobile manufacturer, Toyota Motor Corporation, by signing a three-year contract which takes effect from October, 2015.

It is the first time in history since 2000 that a distributorship agreement between Toyota Ghana Limited (TGCL) and its partner, Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC), has taken place.
Speaking during the signing ceremony in Accra on Thursday, Managing Director of Toyota Ghana Limited, Tetsuya Suematsu disclosed that with the new agreement, Toyota Ghana is identified as the manufacturer’s sole distributor in Ghana.

He further explained: “By signing this agreement, Toyota Ghana’s mandate has been renewed as the sole company in Ghana authorized by the Toyota Motor Corporation, manufacturers of Toyota products, to sell Toyota vehicles and provide after-sales service support for them.
“It also gives us the mandate to use the mark and logo of Toyota in the advertising, promotion, sale and servicing of Toyota products in Ghana,” he added.

According to him, the agreement offers Toyota Ghana the exclusive right to collaborate with Toyota Motor Corporation to offer the best vehicle life experience to all of its customers.
Mr. Suematsu described the distributorship agreement between the two companies as the strength of any relationship between an automobile manufacturer and a distributor in its legally binding agreement.

Whilst assuring customers of Toyota Ghana’s commitment towards provision of quality services coupled with best purchase and ownership experience under the new development, he noted the new agreement, on part of TMC is an indication of acknowledgement of the efforts of Toyota Ghana to meet the vehicle needs of all Toyota Vehicles in Ghana.

In his keynote address, Murtala Mohammed, a Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, commended Toyota Ghana for its diverse support through its corporate social responsibility activities in health, education, environment and road safety, describing the gesture as “clear indication of your focus not only by selling cars but you care also about the wellbeing of Ghanaians”.

He further said: “To have the distributorship agreement signed for the first time in Ghana speaks volumes about Toyota Ghana’s acclaim and the confidence TMC has in them,” adding it has come as no surprise Toyota Motor Corporation has always deemed it fit to renew this distributorship agreement considering the tremendous achievements of Toyota Ghana since its inception”.

Murtala Mohammed reiterates government’s commitment to support Toyota Ghana to grow.

For his part, Mr. Yu Asano, General Manager of Africa Division of Toyota Motor Corporation, said the distributorship agreement has a significant role to play in Ghana due to the strong collaboration his outfit has with Toyota Ghana in provision of suitable vehicles including best support and maintenance service to the Ghanaian market.
