Devio Arts Centre holds 3rd annual Children’s Arts Festival
Devio
Arts Centre, a non-profit organization that provides opportunity for
children and young people to acquire creative life skills has held its 3rd annual Children’s Art Festival.
This year’s event held at the Osu Ako Adjei Park, Accra September was on the theme: “Sanitation and Recycling”.
Over hundred school kids under the age of 16 who participated were expertly trained in activities like comic illustrations, face painting, clay and ceramics works, recycling of crafts, and paddington activities as wells as cultural drumming and dancing.
Some of the kids who took part in the clay and ceramic works session were able to mold objects like summer house, tea cups, cooking pots, coal pots, ant hills, birds and other objects.

According to Lily Kudzro, Executive Director of Devio Arts Centre, this year’s event was aimed at getting more children extremely creative by providing them with creative arts programs and activities that they can really learn from and have fun with.
Lilly Kudzro told Joy News “there’s
so much lack of creativity in our schools, this is one of the ways that we
really get children to practice creativity so that they can go back home, go
back to schools and then continue practicing things like that on their own to
get more creative, become smart and innovative”.
She therefore appealed to
parents to take advantage of the annual Children’s Arts Festival in order
to give their kids the opportunity to express themselves in creative ways,
adding, children needs to be creative to become great people in the future.
Michaela Mawutornam Mensah, 5-yr-old girl was excited to have learnt how to recycle an old bottle by creating a vase out of it which can be used to modify a house.
The event organized by Devio Arts Centre was supported by Reach for change,
Tigo, ET –Commerce, the Universal Wonderful Street Academy and the British High
Commission.

The annual event which
is held in every August since its maiden edition in 2013, however, took
place in September this year at Ako Adjei Park near Osu in Accra on the
theme: sanitation and recycling”.
This year’s festival was well patronized by over hundred school kids between the ages of 0-16 who were expertly trained in activities like comic illustrations, face painting, clay and ceramics works, recycling of crafts, Paddington activities as wells as cultural activities like drumming and dancing amongst others.
Some of the kids who took part in the clay and ceramic works session were able to mold objects like summer house, tea cups, cooking pots, swish coal pots, ant hills, birds and other objects using clay has displayed a high-level of skills and creativity towards the artwork.
Whilst others who had turns to create a vase out of an old wine bottles put up a good show to the amazement of their trainers.
According to Lily Kudzro, Executive Director of Devio Arts Centre, this year’s event was aimed at getting more children extremely creative by providing them with creative arts programs and activities that they can really learn from and have fun with.
In an interview with Joy News, Lilly Kudzro said “there’s so much lack of creativity in our schools, this is one of the ways that we really get children to practice creativity so that they can go back home, go back to schools and then continue practicing things like that on their own to get more creative, become smart and innovative”.

“Parents should get more excited about programs like this which actually gives their children opportunities to express themselves in a creative way because children needs to be creative to become great people in the future, they need to be innovative and this is one of those platforms through which they can learn those things” she stressed.
According to Lily Kudzro, the art festival is a ‘huge platform’ through which children can learn skills and develop their talents.
Lilly Kudzro also called on parents not to focus so much attention on other things which wouldn’t get their children those skills but rather support them to patronize the art programs to enable them realize development of their God-given talents.
