WORLD VISION GHANA LAUNCHES CHILD HEALTH CAMPAIGN PROJECT

In efforts to reduce child mortality rate or preventable deaths of children under five years, World Vision Ghana has launched an initiative dubbed Child Health Now Campaign which took place in Accra on the 28th of January 2014 at the Mensvic Hotel.

The Child Health Now campaign project which has been launched today was first implemented by the world Vision Ghana in the year 2012 to contribute towards improvements in Child and maternal health in line with the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) 4 and 5.

Speaking at the formal launch of the campaign project, National Director of the World Vision Ghana Mr. Hubert Charles disclosed the campaign is aimed at supporting and engaging the Government to speed up efforts to attain Millennium Development goals 4 and 5, especially to increase access of the poor to quality health services in the country.

According to him world vision aspires, in partnership   with the government to ensure that children enjoy good health and are cared for, protected and participating in community life.

He revealed the world vision has committed about US$1.5 billion globally to contribute to reducing preventable deaths among children under-five years of age moreover, their assistance compliments the District Health Management Team interventions at the district level and is in alignment with policies and the strategic plans of the government and the district assemblies

He noted his company’s world long term commitment is to work with the Ministry of Health, Ghana Health Service and Coalitions in Health, water and sanitation and the Media to increase the availability and access to essential health services and commodities, increase govt. spending on health in line with the Abuja Declaration and increased access to quality nutrition and health care for mothers and children in the most vulnerable communities.

The World Vision Regional Chairman Advisor, Yolande Yvette Fouda in his speech noted the lunch of the project by World Vision Ghana is timely and suitable taking into mind the year 2015 which is not too far away to achieving the Millennium Development goals 4 and 5 target.

She charged all stakeholders to join in the fight, citing togetherness as the key to accelerating towards the reduction of the maternal mortality rate to zero degree.

To further demonstrate World Vision’s commitment to end preventable child deaths, they have handed over a consignment of drugs worth over US$77,378 to the Minister of Health at the end of the ceremony.

The Child health Now Campaign Project was on the theme together we can end preventable child deaths.
