Catholic Hospital, Battor gets NGO's support

Phoenix Resource Centre Global Aid Ghana(PRCGA), a Ghanaian-based non-governmental charitable organization has presented an Enhanced Visual Assessment (EVA) system, a mobile colposcope for cervical screening to the cervical cancer prevention and training centre of the Catholic Hospital, Battor at a cost of $1,500. According to Dr. Koku Awoonor-Williams, CEO of PRCGA, he was moved to donate because “Battor Hospital has a very specific need basically because of the important work that Dr Kofi Effah is doing coupled with the NGOs goal which seeks to mobilize and help take resources (medical supplies) to places that are in need of them for promotion of health development. “The support and partnership of Phoenix Resource is aimed at placing Ghana public health facilities in the spotlight to address some of the gaps and needs of health facilities as well as attract positive attention and development” Dr Awoonor stressed. Ghana marks International Scoliosis Awareness Day screening over 900 Pupils

Scoliosis Foundation Ghana(SFG) in  collaboration with FOCOS Orthopaedic Hospital and Inspire to Rise(NGOs) have marked this year's International Scoliosis Awareness Day with a sensitization forum and subsequently screened over 900 Pupils of Kanda Cluster of Schools on the condition. This year's event was staged at the Kanda Cluster of Schools in Accra on Friday, June 23. It was on the theme: "Be Aware of Scoliosis". Various speakers took turns at the forum to address the students on the significance of the day. The key message for the day was focused on awareness creation and early detection of Scoliosis, galvanizing support for the affected and dispelling fear and stigma surrounding the condition. Over 100 Youth in Bukom sensitized on dangers of unsafe abortion

Over 100 youth living in Israel, a fishing community located within Bukom, a suburb of  Accra have been vigorously sensitized on the dangers of illegal  abortion under a project dubbed "Aborti on 360". They were also advised to adopt the practice of comprehensive abortion care(CAC) always to stay out of danger. The youth, usually made up of teenagers from the ages of 10 to 20 were schooled at a durbar organized by 3 NGOs spearheading the 'abortion 360 campaign' on dangers of unsafe abortion and the need to embrace the comprehensive abortion care for their own safety.  The method used to drum home the message was a popular theatre (drama) which sheds more light on the illegal abortion practice.  Though a short drama portraying a mixture of pain and pleasure, the storyline was interesting and educative highlighting the problems and offering solutions on safe abortion practices which impacted every participant greatly. Scoliosis Foundation, philanthropists et al. supports 12- year -old girl to undergo spine surgery

Scoliosis Foundation Ghana(SGF), a not- for-profit organisation with support from some benevolent organisations and philanthropists in the country have assisted 12- year-old Emily Darko, a scoliosis patient to successfully undergo a surgery  to straighten up her spine at a total cost of  GH¢36,000.00. Emily's condition was critical which requires a surgery to correct the defect with her spine to aid her live a normal life just like any human being. The surgery was executed by team of experts from the FOCOS Orthopedic Hospital in Accra.
