Nothing could be so empowering than the knowledge to prevent the recurrence of the deadly Holocaust which has been the biggest threat to the survival of many lives in the world.
Such knowledge is a key that holds the power to total transformation and redemption of the world.
Holocaust as the name implies was a genocide which took place during World War II in which Adolf Hitler’s Nazi Germany systematically murdered some six million Jews, about two-thirds of the total Jewish Population of Europe at the time.
The memories of the horrific Holocaust is still fresh in mind especially within the month of January which is set aside by UN to remember those who lost their lives during that scary period.
In a bid to share that knowledge which is expected to help prevent the recurrence of the deadly Holocaust in the near future, The United Nations Information Centre, Accra has organized a forum which saw over hundred students in Accra sensitized on the Holocaust.
The forum which was on the theme: “Holocaust Remembrance and Education: Our Shared Responsibility witnessed a blend of activities such as Film Screening of the ” The Path to Nazi Genocide ” , students interactions on the Holocaust and exhibition of the butterfly project.

According to Cynthia Prah, the National Information Officer of UNIC Accra, the event was one of the Centre’s initiative in commemoration of the 2018 Holocaust Remembrance Day aimed at sharing knowledge and creating awareness about the Holocaust. “It also seeks to encourage students to confront and rectify negative traits or behavior they encounter in society in an effort to prevent acts of genocide and secure a better future” she added.
At the Osu Presbyterian Church Hall where the event was staged, the students were treated to a 40 minutes movie titled ” The Path to Nazi Genocide”, a film produced by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum which examines the Nazis’ rise and consolidation of power in Germany.
It was followed by an exhibition exercise on the Butterfly Project which evokes the memories of the children of Holocaust, provided historical background on the Holocaust during which approximately 1.5 million children, primary Jewish perished.
They were later addressed by some officials from the German and Israeli Embassy on the horrors of Holocaust, the significance of the Remembrance Day, the lessons that should be learnt and the way forward to prevent its recurrence.
