GHANA, KENYA MOVES TO PROMOTE TOURISM IN AFRICA
As part of efforts to enhance promotion and
marketing of tourism in Ghana and Kenya for that matter in Africa as a
whole, Ghana Tourism federation (GHATOF) in collaboration of Kenya Tourist
board and Kenya Airways has organized a training workshop to sensitize private institutions,
countries and stakeholders in the tourism sector about the need to foster unity,
mobilize resources towards sustainable promotion and marketing of tourism between
both countries.
The 1st ever Ghana Tourism Federation(GHATOF),Kenya
Tourist Board and Kenya Airways training event which took place at Alisa Hotel in Accra marks the beginning of
co-operation partnership and collaboration to all areas of tourism development
between Kenya and Ghana saw a combination of members and leaders of
participating groups from Kenya and
Ghana such as Tour Guides Association, Tourism writers Association, Ghana
Progressive Hotel Association Institute of Hospitality Ghana ,The Ghana national
drinking bar Association, The Ghana Traditional Caterers Association, The Eco-tourism Foundation, The Kenya Tourist Board, Kenya Airways and the Media.
Speaking during the opening of the conference,
President of the Ghana Tourist federation, David Nana Anim disclosed the initiative
to join ties with Kenya was as a result lack of finance on part of Ghana’s
tourism sector to drive its tourism
Agenda forward therefore Ghana Tourism Federation, a key non-Governmental
Organization responsible for the promotion of tourism in Ghana has called for partnership
with Kenya Tourism board and Kenyan Airways which by their kind response has enable
a transit of a five- member delegation from Ghana who toured Kenya to access
their market.
He called for determination on part of the sector
Ministry and it’s patrons to improve its performance through collective
teamwork and strategic planning to improve marketing and promotion through
improve partnership system.
The Deputy Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative
Arts, Ms. Abla Dzifa Gomashie noted Ghanaian tourism Ministry is not doing bad
at all but must work harder to ensure and promote the indigenous cultural
values that God has endowed the country with so as to promote tourism in
Africa.
She lamented failure on part of Ghanaians to promote the
natural tourist attraction sites that Ghana is blessed with and called for support of all stakeholders, NGO’s , and all
lovers of tourism to help promote and market tourism to the fullest.
