The Export Trade, Agricultural and Industrial Development Fund (EDAIF) has approved an amount of about GH10 million for the implementation of Phase I of its CASSAVA INTEGRATED ENTERPRISE DEVELOPMENT PROJECT which is aimed at large scale production and processing of cassava for industrial use and export. The objective of the project which will be implemented in phases is to increase economic opportunities through sustainable and competitive cassava production, marketing and agro-enterprise development in Ghana. The approved fund for the first phase is to be utilized for the establishment of three factories at Ejura in the Ashanti Region, Kintampo in the Brong-Ahafo Region and Damongo in the Northern Region. The factories will produce High Quality Cassava Flour for the domestic market (to substitute for wheat imports for flour) and for export. The Majority of the National Democratic Congress Executives (NDC) of the Klottey Korley Constituency has opposed the candidature of Dr. Ezanetor Rawlings to become the Member of Parliament for the constituency describing her as unfit. The executives have rejected her intention, claiming she is not known in the constituency. Another contentious issue they have raised is that “the Klottey Korley seat in question is a reserve of indigenes of Ga State”. The Planned Parenthood Association of Ghana (PPAG) has been adjudged Ghana’s principal recipients of the global fund for scoring 66% due to referral of HIV positive inmates to access treatment in the hospitals. Dr. Joseph Amuzu, Executive Director of Planned Parenthood Association of Ghana (PPAG), disclosed this at the opening ceremony of a 5 days global fund review meeting with zonal officers from three zones across the country including officers of Theatre for change, an NGO serving as a sub-recipient on the PPAG’s HIV/AIDS programme within the prisons in Accra. Commenting on the PPAG’s record over the period, Dr. Amuzu declared PPAG as scoring 66% of referral of HIV positive inmates to access treatment in the hospitals.
