Ezanetor’s parliamentary bid in limbo as Klottey Korley executives root for Ga indigene

Dr. Ezanetor Rawlings, the daughter of the Founder of National Democratic Congress [NDC], Ex-President Jerry John Rawlings is finding her bid to contest in the Klottey Korley constituency NDC primaries a tough nut to crack as credible information at our disposal indicates that that the rank and file of party in the constituency want indigenous Ga as a Member of Parliament.

This reporter gathered that Leeford Quarshie, Wakefield Akuaku, Nii John Coleman, incumbent MP Nii Armah Ashitey including Dr. Ezanetor Rawlings has declared their intention to vie for the parliamentary seat at the party’s primaries slated for 7th November 2015.

Sources close to Klottey Korley NDC Constituency Executives told this reporter that all the contestants with the exception of daughter of the Founder of NDC are thorough bred Ga people.

Samples poll conducted among members of the NDC in the constituency as to which candidate will win the NDC parliamentary primaries present a conundrum for Dr.  Ezanetor Rawlings.
 She was trailing other aspirants in the independent poll conducted last week. Those who spoke to this reporter cited Dr. Ezanetor Rawlings as a non-indigene of Ga State as their reason.

Though the cross-section of NDC members holds a firm conviction that, the daughter of Mr. Rawlings is very competent and can represent their interest in parliament.  Members of the ruling party however say they will feel comfortable working with what they described as ‘one of their own’ as an indigenous person can easily bond with them because the individual understand their socio-cultural setting.

When members were asked which Ga aspirants they will vote for and will win the parliament slot come 7th November 2015, they kept their cards close their chest.

But the NDC Constituency Executives stood their grounds saying they are against Dr. Ezanetor in every way in her bid to contest other aspirants who are true indigene of Ga State, they hinted.

They have therefore vowed to resort to any illegal means as a measure to deter Dr. Ezanetor from achieving her desire if she failed to rescind on her decision to contest in the primaries election.

Another vexed issue that is working against Dr. Ezanetor Rawlings bid when this reporter gauge the political temperature of the constituency is the frosty relationship between her mother, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings and the rank and file of the NDC culminating in the President of 31st December Women Movement breaking rank with the NDC party and forming her own party, the National Independent Party.

 The Klottey Korley is located in the heart of Greater Accra Region. It has over the years been hotly contested between the NDC and NPP. The story will not be different come 2016 presidential and parliamentary elections.
