Be guided strictly by 1992 constitution before appointing new EC boss -CONWOG to Akufo-Addo

The Coalition of National Women Organizers of various political parties in the country has called on President Nana Akufo-Addo  to exercise restrained and be strictly guided by the 1992 constitution of Ghana before appointing a new Commissioner into office to head the Electoral Commission.
In a statement signed by a number of Political Party Women Organizers, including the National Patriotic Party’ Joyce Zampare, the women said they regretted the conduct of  President Nana Akufo-Addo towards the removal of the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission(EC), Charlotte Osei and her two deputies of whom one of them is also a woman form office
They expressed utter shock over the recommendations made by the committee members chaired by the Chief Justice, Her Ladyship Sophia Akuffo who also happens to be a woman leading to the removal of the top E.C. Officials.
The group with their gender lenses on came to conclusion on the outcome of this case that women are not treated fairly by men when it comes to their appointment into office by political leaders”
“It is heart wrenching to note that Ghana has become a nation where women are only appointed by political leaders into offices as a cosmetic display to achieve cheap political point and are quickly booted out at their convenience. These male appointing political leaders behave as if women are expected to give an above hundred percent performance in their respective roles before they can be deemed fit to continue occupying their offices”, the group noted.
They felt the three top EC officials sacked should have been meant undergo other disciplinary measures instead of getting removed from office drawing evidence from various cases they’ve cited which they believe amounted to gross disciplinary measures but yet the culprits who happens to be political appointees were left the hook.
The Coalition members among other pressing demands in the light of appointment of new EC boss appealed to President Nana Akufo-Addo to be guided strictly by the 1992 constitution of Ghana which calls for equality regardless of gender, race or religious affiliation and ensure women are not relegated to background against natural justice when it comes to appointments.
