Toyota Ghana gives Adabraka Polyclinic a facelift
The gesture according to Mr. Tetsuya Suematsu, Managing Director of Toyota Ghana Limited forms part of the company’s social responsibility towards Ghanaians in the area of healthcare delivery.
Speaking at the ceremony to commission the
refurbished patient waiting area at Adabraka Polyclinic on Friday, Mr. Tetsuya Suematsu noted Toyota Ghana believes health is
wealth for that matter, a healthy
community is a productive community hence the need for them to support Adabraka
Polyclinic in giving the patient waiting area of the Polyclinic a facelift.
He said due
to the company’s commitment in addressing issues of healthcare, the management
of Toyota Ghana has dismissed other proposals only to answer to the second
call of Adabraka Polyclinic to help refurbish the Out- Patients- Department (OPD)
which will provide a comfortable sitting
environment for the over 200 patients who visit the clinic on
daily basis.
According to him, the first time the company heeded calls
of the Adabraka Polyclinic was when it renovated the phase one of the nurses’ stations
of the Out-Patients-Department.
“We believe our gesture will go a long way to
transform the lives and health status of patients, staff and the entire
Ghanaian populace” he hinted.
Toyota Ghana Company Limited has been very
responsible corporate organization availing itself to Ghanaians not only for
their vehicle needs, but also, contributing socially to sectors such as
Education, Environment, Road Safety and Health in Ghana.
The company has shown a great deal of commitment in
the health sector by assisting health institutions in
diverse ways so as to improve
healthcare delivery in the country.
Dr. Ebenezer Oduro-Mensah, Head of Adabraka
Polyclinic in his address before the handing over of the facility expressed
profound delight for the remarkable transformation the Adabraka Polyclinic OPD nurses’
station has seen due to the financial support from Toyota Ghana Company
Limited.
He noted although the OPD nurses’ station remains the
eye of the clinic where most patient spend long period of time with nurses, yet
the ambience was not conducive for its purpose warranting the appeal for
support from Toyota Ghana which was heeded to without delay which saw the facelift of the station at
the total cost of GHC 16,079.00.
“Our nurses can now operate in a safe environment and
provide patients with the required privacy during consultation periods. Complaints
from the staff and patients about the heat and health risks posed by the
asbestos ceiling will now be a thing of the past”, Dr. Oduro-Mensah asserted.
Dr. Ebenezer Oduro-Mensah on behalf of the
Polyclinic commended Toyota Ghana for their support in giving the facility a facelift.
Identifying some of the challenges the clinic faces
due to transportation problems, Dr. Oduro-Mensah appealed to the company to help
donate vehicle to support the Polyclinic.
He also called on other corporate institutions to
emulate the kind gesture of Toyota Ghana by donating to support the clinic in
order to improve upon healthcare service delivery in the country.
The Adabraka Polyclinic is a primary health facility
providing a wide range of services including general practice and family physician
consultation, maternal care, dental practice, psychiatric support, HIV care and
family planning services.
Formerly known as Ridge
Hospital OPD, it has gone through some processes due to a merger with the then
Adabraka Polyclinic before it finally metamorphosed into Adabraka Polyclinic
today.
The Ghana Health Authority
in 2010 realized there was too much congestion at the Ridge Hospital OPD
whilst facilities at the Adabraka Polyclinic are being underutilized hence the
decision to merge the OPDs.
The Adabraka Polyclinic has been noted for recording
33 cholera cases in just 2 weeks since the outbreak of the cholera disease in
the year 2012.
Commenting the issues of Cholera outbreak which in
the past has lowered the image of the clinic in the sight of the public due to inaccurate
media reportage, Head of Adabraka Polyclinic, Dr. Ebenezer Oduro-Mensah observed
the clinic has done its bit in aiding the Cholera victims even though the
clinic is not a national Cholera centre as speculated.
“We have formerly always been in the news for
cholera, but wish to assure all our cherished patrons and clients that we are
not the national Cholera centre. We only
have some of the most dedicated staff who over the years sacrificed to ensure
we maintain a high survival rate for cholera patients who come to us, and now
have a dedicated separate unit to manage cholera, with support from government”
he hinted.
