Govt should be sensitive to issues of modern slavery like 'galamsey'-Engage Now Africa

Engage Now Africa (ENA), an international NGO committed to ending poverty in Africa has lauded government’s unwavering commitment to fight illegal-mining popularly known as ‘galamsey’ in the country, urging it to use the same zeal to combat modern slavery.   Director of End Modern Slavery of ENA, David Kofi Awusi made the call whilst addressing participants at a one-day “education & sensitization durbar” on modern slavery held at the Teachers Hall on Thursday, May 18 2017 in Takoradi, Western Region. Scoliosis Foundation, philanthropists et al. supports 12- year -old girl to undergo spine surgery

Scoliosis Foundation Ghana(SGF), a not- for-profit organisation with support from some benevolent organisations and philanthropists in the country have assisted 12- year-old Emily Darko, a scoliosis patient to successfully undergo a surgery  to straighten up her spine at a total cost of  GH¢36,000.00. Emily's condition was critical which requires a surgery to correct the defect with her spine to aid her live a normal life just like any human being. The surgery was executed by team of experts from the FOCOS Orthopedic Hospital in Accra. 2017 World Malaria Day:Ghanaians walk to create awareness ahead of major event

Ahead of this year’s World Malaria Day event which falls on April 2015, 2017, some youths in the country have demonstrated strong commitment towards the success of the event by embarking on a health walk exercise to raise awareness of it. The exercise began in Accra at exactly 15 minutes passed 7:00 o’clock in the morning on Saturday April 22, with over two hundred participants in attendance drawn from various institutions including Civil Society Groups, Governmental Organizations and other stakeholders in the health sector of the country. They walked through some principal streets of Accra carrying placards with various inscriptions conveying key messages on how to end malaria till they got to Kawukudi Park at Nima where they finally converged. Call it a jubilation of a lifetime though just a weeklong activities to mark this year’s Students Representative Council(SRC) week celebration of the  University of Professional Studies, Accra(UPSA). This year’s SRC week celebration in the history of the UPSA was touted as talk of town due to the heightened momentum it has received from students both in and out of school including the general public. Expectations were so high right from the beginning of the week, there was so much joy in the air and most students really had fun to the fullest.
