Over 130 kids feted in Madina-Zongo   An international non-governmental organization (NGO) committed to ending poverty in Africa through assisting young people get access to quality education has put smiles on faces of inmates of the Mother of all Nations Nursery School.   Adompoja-Kinderhilfe, a German based NGO, has made it possible for over 130 deprived school kids within the Mother of all Nations Foundation Nursery School in Madina Zongo Community, a suburb of Accra, to enjoy a memorable day of fun, excitement and jubilation to mark the end of their longest school semester term for this year which began on May 2 and ended up in August 2, 2016.  It has sponsored everything from food, water, drink, biscuit, and toffee including provision of sonorous music to excite and entertain the kids get on their dancing feet making the day, popularly known as “Our Day”, a day to remember with with laughter, entertainment and great joy.  ...

Ghana partners Netherlands to improve knowledge of  healthcare personnel through ICT Ghana and Netherlands have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) aimed at improving surgical training and care for healthcare professionals in the country. The move according to Dr. Gloria Quansah Asare, Deputy Director General of Ghana Health Service forms part of measures to reduce the deficit in surgical skills and training of health professionals by way of promoting healthcare delivery in Ghana. She explained that under the MOU, which binds the Ghana Health Service and its counterpart Incision Netherlands, signed in Accra on August 5, 2016, will enable healthcare experts in the country to enroll on Incision Academy, an online electronic platform uniquely designed by Incision Netherlands to build their capacity and skills on the job in the fields of surgical operation, medicals and others. Ghana Disability Achievers Awards Launched Dr. Adams Nuhu, Awutu-Senya East Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) has entreated Ghanaians to generously support any cause that is aimed at empowering the physically challenged in our society.   According to him, persons living with disability are creatures of God bestowed with enormous untapped talents which when supported will make them self-sufficient instead of relying on begging as the easiest means of making money.   “Persons with disability are blessed with great untapped talents which can be developed through learning of trade which all Ghanaians must help them to achieve so they can create their own wealth instead of sitting by the roadside with the show of amputated hands to make money the easiest way which I believe is not the best”  he stressed. Gov't urged to increase maternity leave period for women Some stakeholders working in the health sector of the country are advocating strongly  calling on to government  urgently stem in and ensure that the current maternity leave period women enjoy is increased to appreciable level  to commensurate with the 14 weeks period recommended by International Labour Organization (ILO).  This according to them will help remove the barriers to breastfeeding thereby guaranteeing   every nursing mother practice exclusive breast feeding for six month and  later  continue for two years or longer as recommended by the World Health Organization(WHO).
