Airtel Ghana the leading telecommunications network in Mobile Banking has up-graded and expanded its mobile money platform by making it simpler for its customers to transact business. Launching the  platform in Accra, the CEO of Airtel Ghana Philip Sowah stated Ghanaians live in a world where time is becoming an essential commodity and people  spend long hours in queues just to access goods and services, make payments or in traffic trying to move from one place to another. IITA TECHNOLOGIES ARE HELPING FARMERS TO DOUBLE YIELDS…. SAYS AADL

The Allied Atlantic Distilleries Limited (AADL), Africa’s biggest maker of ethanol from cassava, says improved varieties and best-bet agronomic practices in the production of cassava, which it obtained from the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) and passed on to farmers have almost doubled the yield of the root crop, making it possible for farmers to supply more of this raw material to the industry than earlier expected. Commissioned on 30 January (Thursday) in Lasada, Igbese community in Ogun State, the ethanol factory will produce 9 million liters per annum of extra neutral alcohol, requiring approximately 250 tons of cassava per day. WORLD VISION GHANA LAUNCHES CHILD HEALTH CAMPAIGN PROJECT

In efforts to reduce child mortality rate or preventable deaths of children under five years, World Vision Ghana has launched an initiative dubbed Child Health Now Campaign which took place in Accra on the 28 th of January 2014 at the Mensvic Hotel. The Child Health Now campaign project which has been launched today was first implemented by the world Vision Ghana in the year 2012 to contribute towards improvements in Child and maternal health in line with the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) 4 and 5. IITA & Partners launches a 5-year research project on Sustainable Weed Management Practices for Cassava Farms

A new multi-year project assessing sustainable weed management technologies for cassava-based farming systems in Nigeria is being launched by the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) and its partners in Ibadan, 28 - 31 January 2014. The project is seeking to find solutions to the labor-intensive weeding usually performed by women and children and to increase cassava productivity for 125,000 Nigerian farm families. The project has the potential to serve as a livelihood transformation model for all cassava-producing states in Nigeria. Cassava is generally grown by smallholder farmers, who appreciate its tolerance of drought and poor soils. However, its prospects in Nigeria—the world’s largest producer—is being threatened by insufficiently developed weed management practices. KENYA, NIGERIA KICKED OFF TOURISM CAMPAIGNS IN WEST AFRICA

Nigeria and Kenya has kicked off massive tourism marketing campaigns in West Africa by launching travel trade training sessions in different regions of Ghana and Nigeria. Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) says the two countries have shown all the indications of contributing to the Kenya's tourism growth as Kenya turns to emerging markets and the Africa region for more tourists. "West Africa is potential to us and this is the beginning of our efforts to tapping into the market that has high spenders with willingness to spend" says KTB Regional Marketing Manager Fred Okeyo during the launch of travel trade training and media engagement programs underway in the cities of Ghana and Nigeria. KTB is training about 200 travel agents in West Africa as well as media engagement programs in a bid to equip them with information on Kenya's tourism products.
