Support training of family physicians - SOFPOG told government

The Africa Regional President for World Organization of Family Doctors (WONCA), Dr. Henry Lawson has called on government, the World Health Organization (WHO) and other International Organizations and funding agencies, NGOs and corporate organizations in the country to as matter of urgency help support training of Family Physicians in order to help improve healthcare delivery in the country. According to him, training more Family Physicians can help improve the chances of other medical doctors also getting trained to deliver on quality healthcare in the country. The move he noted would help also accelerate healthcare delivery or treatment of health problems in areas of care including pregnancy, delivery, infant care, adult and elderly care, acute and chronic health conditions, emergency care and mental health conditions among others. FDA, Police Swoop:12 illegal drug peddlers arrested at Ashiaman market

The Food and Drug Authority(FDA) in attempt to combat fake drugs in the country together with some personnel from the Criminal Investigation Department(CID) Headquarters of Ghana Police Service have embarked on swoop last Friday afternoon which saw a total of 12 illegal drug peddlers arrested at the Ashiaman market. The swoop led by the Head of Drug Market Surveillance of the FDA, Mr Vigil Prah-Ashun who swung into action around 12:30 pm at some vital points of the Ashiaman market where the exercise was conducted and arrested twelve (12) illegal drug peddlers. According Mr Prah-Ashun, the swoop on Ashiaman market has become necessary upon intelligence gathered which suggested it has gradually been turned into a hotbed for illicit drug peddlers hence the need to clamp on them. “We work based on intelligence. For now the intelligence we’ve gathered is that there are a lot of such activities going on in Ashiaman that’s why we’ve decided to go to Ashiaman today”, he stressed. ...

KUAPA KOKOO INTER-TERTIARY SCHOOL DEBATE: KNUST, UCC, UEW,GIMPA for finals; event slated for May 30 @ Kempinski Hotel

Four (4) top universities in the country namely KNUST, UCC, UEW and GIMPA have been declared winners in preliminary stage of the keenly contested Kuapa Kokoo Inter-Tertiary School Debate which came down last Monday at the British Council Auditorium in Accra. The competition, an initiative of the Millennium Promise Alliance Ghana and Kuapa Kokoo Limited in recognition of the 25th Anniversary of the Kuapa Kokoo Farmers Union saw eight (8) top Universities battle for honors at the preliminary stage of the Green Ghana Lecture Series inter-tertiary institutions debate. The participating schools which include the University of Ghana, Legon, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA).
